M. Night Shyamalan has been given the finger by Fox.

According to Variety and Movieweb, Fox 2000 Pictures is resentful of Shyamalan’s decision to direct Warner Brother’s Lady In The Water, before their big screen adaptation of Life Of Pi. Not wanting to wait over a year for his availability, they are eyeing other prospects. Their desired replacement choice is currently Harry Potter & The Prisoner Of Azkaban director Alfonso Cuaron.

Cuaron has a slew of other projects in the making, including Children Of Men, but allegedly is thrilled to offer his services to the project. “Life Of Pi” is a bestselling novel by Yann Martel, about the son of a zookeeper, Pi, who emigrates from India to America with their zoo animals. Before his journey is successfully completed, the ship sinks, leaving Pi stranded on a lifeboat with a handful of wild animals. Sounds like a wacky retelling of “Noah’s Ark”.

Final details are still being worked out. Personally, seeing Shyamalan direct a movie that doesn't involve a big convoluted twist, supernatural underbelly, or freakishly creepy child, would be worth the price of admission in itself.
