No Strings Attached Poster Will Confuse You With Its Tagline
While it's not to common for separate studios to put similar projects into development, it is bizarre when they both make it out of production at around the exact same time and begin their promotional phases one day apart. That's exactly what happened two weeks ago when trailers for both Ivan Reitman's No Strings Attached and Will Gluck's Friends With Benefits came online. Both movies are about a guy (Ashton Kutcher and Justin Timberlake, respectively) who begin to have casual sex with a girl (Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, respectively) before feelings begin to take over. Those they are being released seven months apart, the former arriving in January and the latter not out until July, it's hard to believe that crowds will go see the same movie with different actors twice in one year, so from here on out it's an ad war.
With their date coming up sooner, the first poster for No Strings Attached has arrived online, courtesy of Hollywood.com. A pretty standard poster in every way (Note: I will never complain about Natalie Portman not wearing pants), the most eye catching thing is the tagline: "Friendship has its benefits." You almost get the sense that they are trying to confuse the audience on purpose. I now half-expect that the poster for Friends With Benefits will have an equally stupid tagline that reads something along the lines of "Cut the strings before they become attached."
Check out the poster below (click it to see it full size over at Hollywood.com) and prepare to have these two movies mixed up in your head for the coming months.
