No Tatum Or Dewan For Step Up 2

Step Up 2 is a movie that has me conflicted. Typically I’d complain about another dance movie, like I did with Step Up, and a needless sequel to an existing dance movie. But the truth is once I got past my own complaining, I really enjoyed Step Up. So a sequel could have potential…

Except Step Up 2 is lacking everything that made the first movie so interesting. Director Anne Fletcher has been replaced with relative newcomer Jon Chu, whose experience with musicals includes the independent When the Kids Are Away (although Fletcher will executive produce… which means she might not be involved at all). Channing Tatum is being replaced by his She’s the Man co-star Robert Hoffman in the male role, and Jenna Dewan’s female character is being replaced by one from Briana Evigan (daughter of Greg Evigan).

Even the gender roles have swapped. This time the story will focus around a stable male student and a rebellious female student, at the same Maryland Dance School. Basically, the filmmakers are going to take the same formula that worked for the first one and repeat it. They’re even repeating the online MySpace contest that they used for Step Up that allows users to upload audition tapes to potentially win some involvement with the movie, from dancing in the movie to singing a song on the soundtrack.

Everything about this sequel makes me want to hate it right off the bat, but having Step Up as a guilty pleasure movie makes that difficult. I’ll go ahead and suggest it won’t do as well though. Lacking Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan is going to be a big hit on the film’s popularity. I’d say Tatum’s popularity alone made up for a large part of Step Up’s success. Without that, this one could fall flat.

this step up movie 2, is going to be rubbish! why arnt they the same charcters they were really good!!! i dont really wanna see its pissed me off :L GET THEM BACK IN ! i herad channing was in a bit of it, its just like save the last dance diffrent people and grease..its rubbish i carnt belive it!

i really liked step up. but channing does make a guest appearance and plus they were supposed to be seniors in step up so he obviously has graduated and the girl who plays Andie is supposed to be tatum's foster sister from the first one all grown up. so i can't wait to see it.

I heard that Channing Tatum IS supposed to be in the movie, and I really hope he is. The movie will suck without him. He's my favorite actor ever. He is in the trailer for it, I was watching it a few minutes ago. And I also read that Andie is Tyler's sister. I don't think that the movie will be too bad, but I really really hope that Channing is in it.

Just based on the fact that the main characters are being switched its going to lower the viewing rates and on top of it the fact that its going to have the same story line is going to make it even worse. Personally I believe that its definitely going to fall flat and they are going to loose money on it. The same thing happened with Save The Last Dance and Save The Last Dance 2. It turned people off right away when they found out that they switched main characters, the main characters for Step Up were what made the movie. The chemistry between them made it more believable and real. They were the perfect characters for the part. I do not agree this should have changed and am very disappointed.

I can't wait til Step Up 2! i didn't like step up because of the actor and actress, now that Robert's playing Chase Collins!!! I can't wait!! I love Robert!!! Not to mention, he's a much more talented dancer than Channing, who is also an extremely gifted dancer. As for the girl from Step Up, i don't really care coz she annoyed me. So yeah i think Step Up 2 will be way better!!!

People!!! Robert Hoffman is a WICKED and i mean WICKED dancer!!! Trust me, he's much more interesting to watch than Channing and that's pretty hard to find coz Channing's amazing but give Robert a chance! Just go onto www.punchrobert.com or youtube and search punchrobert and watch his dance videos. They're just...WOW!!! Any dance movie with Robert in it is well worth watching, just look back at 'You Got Served!' he did extremely well and he choreographed most of those dances!!!

I think that they should use the same Characters Especially Channing Tantum the first step up movie is really good but since they are doing it a whole diffrent way i don't think that no one will like it the previous characters did a good job and the movie was good but i just think the 2nd movie isn't going to be as great as the 1st one....

that's kinda lame man.
i was too excited when i heard that there is going to be second step up movie , but now, i think i'm gonna throw up.
they should have kept chaning and jenna, no one can do it better than they did it. especially not a dady's poser bgirl. -.-
im really really really disappointed.
the idiot who moved anne fletcher and changed the caracters should be ashamed of himself. ruining a great movie like step up is a disaster.

this is stupid!!!! i love love love the chareters in the first step up and changing them is the gayiest thing evr and all my friends agree this will not be a movie im going to see so im kinda depressed cause i thought it was a follow up of what happend in the first and its so NOT!!! :( :( :(

I agree with everyone regarding the female role, the Evigan chick. BUT I think Robert Hoffman is amazing and he should be given the chance to perform. We'll see what the result is going to be.

oh man thats stupid what they're doin....i mean without the leads it wouldnt be the same...channing and jenna are made for each other...i luv the couple chenna....and step up is like my all time favourite dance movie...i just hope step up 2 turns out ok...robert hoffman isnt channing tatum and briana evigon or whatever she is called isnt jenna dewan either...still looking forward to a movie that is gonna be OK... and btw go CHENNA!!!!

Agree, this movie is going to suck bad. First off they are trying to do a movie about bboys and bgirls when they know NOTHING about it!! They put a girl in the lead that has never done a six-step in her entire life and they think they can just throw some prissy little jazz girl in the mix and make her look like a bgirl.

SO MANY REAL BGIRLS AUDITIONED FOR THIS ROLE AND THEY ALL GOT SCREWED. The only reason this girl booked it was because of Daddy's connections. She has NO breakdancing experience and she is not even a good commercial hip-hop dancer. She is a poser. She doesn't even have that bgirl style in any way!!! WHAT THE HELL ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO BE SUCH A JOKE. AND SO DISSAPOINTING THAT THEY DON'T RESPECT AND RECOGNIZE THAT BBOYING IS SO COMPLEX AND IT HAS SO MUCH HISTORY. YOU CAN'T MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT SOMETHING THAT YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO PORTRAY IN THE RIGHT LIGHT. My dog could dance circles around this girl. I think it is bull that they didn't select someone that is already a huge part of the bboy/bgirl community.

step up 2 will suck because channing tatum is not in it . he is soooo hot & the girl jenna is amazing also. they were both great dancers and i dont know how they will be replaced. the only thing i can do is give this movie a chance. i hope its as good as the first one ..

I LOVE CHANNING TATUM! what an amazing actor and dancer for step up! whoever is making this movie has no right to call it step up 2. if they changed the name it would be like buying knock-off converses. nobody buys those. we want the real thing. i love dance movies and step up was really, really good, but i don't even know if i want to see this one.

Right when I saw the advertisement on Myspace for Step Up 2, I automatically said, "This is gonna be a gay movie".. Step Up was AWESOME! You can't just redo the same plot for the sequal.. Why not follow up with the original characters? Maybe see what happens when she got the job with the dance company and if Tyler followed her? I'd want to watch that more than some new characters with the same plot.. And I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I loved the first Step Up movie. I've been dancing for 12 years so of course I enjoyed the dancing. The second thing I loved was Channing Tatum. Without him the next movie won't be the same. It's kinda like the Grease movies. The first Grease is a classic but no one liked or even saw the second one. They got rid of all the characters and changed the roles of the guy && girl. Well doesn't that sound exactly like the new Step Up movie??? Hmm. . .
