Nolan's Inception Gets An IMAX Release![]()
Bigger is better especially with a Christopher Nolan film. IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures announced that Nolan’s upcoming film Inception will be released in IMAX theaters and conventional theaters simultaneously on July 16th, 2010. We still don’t have any concrete plot details but the press release calls the film “a contemporary sci-fi action film set within the architecture of the mind.”
The cast including Leonard DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Ken Watanabe, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger and Michael Caine are expected to look pristine on an IMAX sceen, but there’s one thing that may keep Inception from looking as spectacular as Nolan’s last IMAX film. Inception was shot using traditional 35mm cameras as opposed to the IMAX cameras used to shoot The Dark Knight. This means the film will have to be upconverted using IMAX DMR technology. There’s always a chance that a digitally remastered version won’t compare to a film that’s a 70mm production, but I doubt Nolan would permit the film to be shown in such a format unless the quality is faultless. |
