With Cloverfield out on DVD this week more people have been exposed to the film and interest in the movie is high again (of course, so are those who are disappointed in the movie, but that’s another story). Since the monster movie hit theaters director Matt Reeves has been talking about a sequel. For those of us who loved the originality of Cloverfield and don’t want to see it rehashed anytime soon, there’s good news – Reeves may not be jumping on the sequel wagon too soon.

See, with his Cloverfield success, Reeves has found himself loaded down with projects. He explained to MTV Movies Blog that another one of his planned projects, The Invisible Women has taken priority as it’s moved to a fully green-lit project instead of something in the works.

For those who think Reeves has moved from a modern take on one classic monster to another, think again. Reeves says the title of his next movie has nothing to do with floating sunglasses or trenchcoats and is a metaphor instead of literal. ”It’s kind of a Hitchcockian thriller, in the vein of ‘Marnie,’ about this woman that gets so desperate to save her family, that she goes to crazy lengths and enters a life of crime. It’s a very, very psychological thriller, but then it’s a lot of fun.”

For those who were anxiously awaiting that Cloverfield sequel, don’t count it out completely. The Invisible Woman was slated to follow Cloverfield 2 on Reeves schedule anyway, so this could just be the simple flipping of two movies. There’s also the skeptical part of me that wonders if it’s not a bluff, designed to keep the press just as unaware of work on a second Cloverfield picture as we were about the first one.
