In case you haven't heard, man-children are all the rage these days. They're so popular, in fact, that there are all kinds of varieties-- the overgrown, bellowing man-child of Will Ferrell, the sensitive and misguided man-children of Judd Apatow, or even the force-of-nature man-child of Jack Black. Now one of the guys responsible for bringing the Will Ferrell variety to the screen, Scot Armstrong, is taking another stab at what's becoming a tried-and-true genre of its own.
Armstrong, who wrote Semi-Pro and Old School among others, will produce the spec script Home Schooled, written by Mike Arnold and Chris Poole. The Hollywood Reporter says the two are some of the most popular screenwriters without an actual movie produced-- their script The Grackle is in production with Matthew McConaughey starring, and Fox Atomic purchased their next project, Captain Awesome, in 2006. Now what's not to like about two guys who write a screenplay called Captain Awesome?
Well, the script for Home Schooled doesn't exactly sound original. The Reporter says it's about a guy who is home-schooled and, at the age of 30, heads off to college. So you mean it's kinda like the upcoming Step Brothers, or maybe even that Brendan Fraser movie Blast from the Past? That's not to say they haven't done anything interesting with the same old story, but no one is coming up with anything groundbreaking here. Still, by the time we see Home Schooled in theaters, Arnold and Poole may be huge names in Hollywood, and no one will ever doubt their talent. For two guys with this many popular projects, you have to count on something at least a little good coming out of it.
