Oldman On Board For Goyer's Next Thriller

Oldman On Board For Goyer's Next Thriller David Goyer isn't really a big name in movies right now, but he could very well be on his way to it. He's had some small successes with Blade: Trinity and last year's The Invisible--OK, very small successes-- but he's written screenplays for huge movies like Batman Begins and the first two Blade movies, and he's in charge of the upcoming X-Men spinoff Magneto.

So while the news about his next project isn't exactly big headlines right now, it very well could be by the time the movie comes out. Variety has announced the cast for Goyer's upcoming supernatural thriller, which will be headlined by Gary Oldman, Cam Gigandet (Who's Your Caddy?) and Odette Yustman (Cloverfield). Unlike many of the supernatural thrillers we've been seeing lately, the concept for this one sounds utterly original and also terrifying.

Yustman will play a 19-year-old girl who is haunted by a “dybbuk,” or a person whose soul has been banned from entering heaven for whatever reason. The person doing the haunting is a boy who died at Auschwitz during the Holocaust. Don't think dead children sound scary? Remember dead Mischa Barton throwing up in Haley Joel Osment's kitchen in The Sixth Sense? I rest my case. Oldman will play a spiritual consultant who tries to help the girl, with Gigandet as the sympathetic boyfriend.

So... OK. I haven't seen any of the movies Goyer has directed, but his screenplays seem to indicate that he's got a good sense of the spooky and the thrilling. This obviously isn't some high-class production with the exception of Oldman, but I don't know... I'm optimistic. May as well give the guy the benefit of the doubt, right?
