One Actor Is Already Gunning For Cable In Deadpool 2

Ladies and gentlemen, Cable is on the god damn way. After realizing that they have unknowingly sat on a goldmine all these years, FOX has finally wised up and given fans the Deadpool movie that they have clamored for. The unprecedented box office success of the film has gotten the ball rolling on a sequel, which will bring fan-favorite X-Men character Cable into the equation. Although Cable has only just been announced, casting rumors have begun to swirl like crazy; one actor who has thrown his hat into the ring seems like an absolutely perfect choice: Stephen Lang.

As you can see from the Tweet above, actor Stephen Lang – best known for his work in the box office smash hit Avatar – has thrown down the gauntlet and declared himself ready and willing to take on the role of Cable in the upcoming Deadpool sequel. The response to the Tweet seems overwhelmingly positive, with fans of the character and the Deadpool movie chiming in that Lang would be an absolutely perfect Cable.

We can’t say that we disagree. Just looking at the photo it’s abundantly clear that he looks like Cable incarnate. Check out this side-by-side comparison to see how uncanny the resemblance is between Stephen Lang and Cable:

For those of you who don’t know, Cable is a fan-favorite character from the X-Men mythos. His actual name is Nathan Summers and he’s a mortal enemy of the godlike mutant Apocalypse; his origin story is incredibly convoluted, but the gist of it is that he’s a time travelling mutant with telepathic powers whose body has been infected with the techno-organic virus – essentially making his body part machine. He has a long history with Deadpool in the comics, and seeing them together on-screen would prove to be a major deal for longtime comic book fans.

If there’s one thing that could possibly work against Lang when it comes time to cast the iconic X-Man in Deadpool 2, it could be his age. Although Cable is inherently an older character, at 63-years-old Stephen Lang will be at the very least halfway to 70 by the time the film hits theaters. Lang very clearly takes care of himself and has the immense physicality for the role of Cable, but at the end of the day a major studio like FOX will want to enlist the acting talents of someone younger in order to increase the longevity of the character – that’s just how franchises work.

Then again maybe I’m wrong; with the success of Deadpool, FOX clearly has evidence that going against the grain and trying something new yields immense benefits. No matter what, Stephen Lang seems like an awesome choice for the endlessly iconic Cable, and we as fans would be delighted to see him take on the role at some point in the near future. We will keep you informed regarding any Deadpool 2 updates as they become available to us. Stay tuned!
