One Twilight Documentary Sues Another One![]()
I'll tell you right from the start, this is not a story we would be covering unless Twilight was involved. What can we say-- the Internet has been buoyed by the legions of crazy vampire fans, and all we can do is submit to their demands. So anyway, you might have heard that Summit Entertainment, the studio that brought you all this vampire madness to begin with, is releasing a documentary titled Twilight in Forks: The Saga of the Real Town, a pretty self-explanatory piece about the real Forks, Washington. Now TMZ is reporting that Summit is forced to sue another company, Topics Entertainment, for planning to release the film Forks: Bitten By Twilight.
Not only do the two films appear to be basically identical, but Topics Entertainment is apparently using images and logos very similar to the official Twilight stuff in order to market their film. Summit wants to keep the rival documentary from being released at all, but it's unclear how they're claiming the film itself, not just the packaging materials, steps on their intellectual property. Images of both DVD covers can be found online, so take a look below to compare and contrast and see how valid you think the argument is. To me it seems there's a limited set of images you can use for something Twilight themed-- moons, wolves, falling leaves, etc.-- so I'm not sure how they expected Topics Entertainment to go a different direction. The money's there for the taking, so you can't blame them for giving it a shot. |
