Orlando Bloom Goes Where No Man Has Gone Before

By Josh Tyler: 2009-02-05 03:49:07
Orlando Bloom Goes Where No Man Has Gone Before The Cross is a sort of mysterious, near future science fiction flick and that means it’ll probably involve CGI. And of course any movie which uses any significant amount of CGI means Orlando Bloom. He’s the new Brendan Fraser.

Variety says Bloom will star in The Cross, a movie about a man in the near future attempting to cross a mysterious border which no one else has ever crossed before. Orlando will play the man who tries to step over the line while Vincent Cassel will play his nemesis, a guard out to stop him from going over, whatever it is that he’s trying to go over. Also involved is Olga Kurylenko as the movie’s female lead. Variety’s story doesn’t say but he cinematic history suggests she’ll be playing a whore of some kind.

Gattaca director Andrew Niccol is in charge, shooting in Australia and spending $24 million on it; so The Cross could turn out to be a big deal. Or it could turn out to be Babylon A.D.. Niccol’s done smart science fiction before, so there’s good reason to hope for the former. As a bonus, it’s set in the future so that should mean an end to Orlando Bloom’s obsession with wielding swords.
