I just finished recording the podcast for this week's Weekly Blend Audio Show, which means you can now listen to me make my Oscar predictions, and take all the suspense out of these predictions articles. But hey, if you're too lazy to listen, or just want to hear more of my rambling thoughts on the Oscars, keep reading anyway!Today we're tackling sound mixing and editing, two categories that we didn't even address on the podcast because no one understands them, and best makeup. These are those awards that come early in the show and you usually don't pay attention to, so hey-- if you keep reading, maybe you'll learn something. As I said before, my predictions from yesterday are below the article, just so you can keep up. Best Sound Editing Iron Man The Dark Knight Wall-E Slumdog Millionaire Wanted Wanted is the surprise nominee in this category, but its superhero competition is definitely too stiff to beat. I think Wall-E has a shot in one of the sound categories, but I'll be damned if I can guess which one. For this one, since Slumdog is the most heavily edited of the bunch, and the most likely to win Best Editing, I'll put it down for Best Sound Editing as well. Yes, I realize that logic is flawed. And the winner is: Slumdog Millionaire Best Sound Mixing The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Dark Knight Wall-E Slumdog Millionaire Wanted To continue with my flawed logic, I think Wall-E will get a sound award here, finally letting Slumdog Millionaire know what it's like to lose for once. They shouldn't get too upset, though-- this might be their only loss of the night. And the winner is: Wall-E Best Makeup The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Dark Knight Hellboy II: The Golden Army I love, love that Hellboy II made it in here, especially since the first film didn't even get nominated for the phenomenal effects they invented in that film. But it probably won't win for the same reason. While Benjamin Button has a ton of nominations, its heat has been fading, and I think that iconic Joker smile may be able to win for the whole movie here. And the winner is: The Dark Knight Best Original Song "Down to Earth" by Peter Gabriel, Wall-E "Jai Ho" by A.R. Rahman, Slumdog Millionaire "O Saya" by M.I.A. and A.R. Rahman, Slumdog Millionaire And the winner is: "Jai Ho," Slumdog Millionaire Best Original Score Alexandre Desplat, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button James Newton Howard, Defiance Danny Elfman, Milk A.R.
