The 80th Annual Academy Awards are over and, let’s face it, with the exception of that terrible technical award win for The Golden Compass there were few surprises. Most of the favorites won and everything seemed to shake out the way everyone expected or thought they should. Special kudos to Cinema Blend’s own Katey Rich, who spent last week making predictions, most of which seemed to be dead on.
But the real question is what did you, the audience thing? You watched the Oscars, you laughed at Jon Stewart’s obligatory Jack Nicholson joke. You were there in Cinema Blend’s annual Oscar Chat with us tonight as we mocked, laughed, and texted together. You’ve seen Juno and either fell instantly in love with or dismissed it as overrated. But were you happy with who won? Check out our complete Oscar Winner Recap, then tell us what you think about this year’s batch of winners. Cast your vote in the official CB Survey below:
What did you think of this year's batch of Oscar winners?

the oscars this year all went to the artsy fartsy's . best song of the movies was not even nominated , that was the Eddie vedder song HARD SUN from the movie into the wild .....and how does TRANSFORMERS not get best special effects oscar ????? best sound and best sound mixing ?????? ..the best thing about the oscars for 2008 was the job the presenter done he made me forget that billy crystal wasn't hosting because crystal is the best !!!!!!!.
All I know is that it's thrilling to see the movie you geniunely believe to be the best of the year take home the prize, and to know that most of the critics agree with you. We're a long way from mediocre winners like A Beautiful Mind and Gladiator, and that's something we can all be proud of.
Are we talking about which is a better movie here or which had better visual effects, because the award is only for visual effects, and the visual effects in Golden Compass looked like exactly what they were... effects. On the other hand a lot of the stuff in Transformers was practically photo realistic.
I don't care how hard it is to do animals, if they don't look real then the effects aren't that good and the animals in Golden Compass looked like CGI.
I don't know what the hell you're complaining about Compass. It was simply fantastic and deserved the Visual Effects award. So much better than Transformers and POTC.
