Sorry Newman, maybe you should become a sound mixer and totally monopolize that Oscar category. Variety reports that The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has changed their rules on song entries considered for “Best Song” award nominations. No more than two songs from a film can be nominated. Thank. God.
Remember when Tarzan was nominated for multiple Phil Collins songs? Or when Dreamgirls and Enchanted had three song nods EACH and lost. How embarrassing (Beyonce, I’m talking to you). Well now that isn’t going to happen. Each film will now have to rely on only one good song or two mediocre songs to earn a gold trophy. This may really hurt the animated features chances of winning awards (aside from you know, the Best Animated Feature category). They usually dominate in the song category due to the previously mentioned Randy Newman. I couldn’t tell you anything about Cars or Monster’s Inc. but I am positive they probably won or received nominations for some song I’ve never heard. Maybe this will open up the category to more hip hop artist nominations? If Three Six Mafia can win, the sky is the limit. I hope Souljah Boy pens a ditty for The Changeling or Lil’ Wayne and Young Jeezy for Frost/Nixon.

I understand the point of your article, but don't bag on Mr Newman, a true musical genius, for no real reason.
