This summer, Guillermo del Toro gave us a big summer blockbuster and a brand new story with Pacific Rim, a tale set in the 2020s in a time when humanity is deadlocked in a fight with a species of monsters known as the Kaijus, a species which has reached Earth via an inter-dimensional portal. Now, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is bringing Pacific Rim on to a variety of formats, including Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on October 15.

The visually appealing film also manages to be fun and entertaining, thanks to some clever one-liners and an awesome performance from Charlie Day, who plays a scientist named Newton Geiszler, a man tasked with getting through a lot of science mumbo jumbo, but who still manages to make the task seem pleasant and amusing. If you liked the film and already plan on purchasing it, I’m a little sad to say the box art probably isn’t something to write home about, but perhaps the movie and the bonus features will make the set a worthwhile purchase. I think I may have just been overly expectant and hoped for some awesome action figures or something like this to get people excited about the Blu-ray release.

If you haven’t caught the movie yet, and just accidentally clicked on this article or are wanting to check it out, the Blu-ray trailer will give you a good idea of what you are getting into, sans a lot of the complicated science fiction plot. Just know there are robots fighting monsters in the future, and that thanks to a big opening in China, the flick might be getting a sequal.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment put a lot of effort into marketing the film and I would have hoped the home entertainment sets would have followed suit. That doesn’t totally seem to be the case, here. I’m sure del Toro’s audio commentary will be well above average and the “Director’s Notebook” segment available with the Blu-ray copies of the film should be pretty neat; I even wonder if they will be similar to the video vlogs put together for The Hobbit Blu-ray (at least we can hope). The rest of the extras seem pretty basic, but hey, maybe the deleted scenes and the artwork will be cool, and I will reserve official judgment until I take a look at the set itself. You can pre-order the set over at Amazon or check out the full list of extras, below.
