Considering both Night at the Museum and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian cleaned up big time at the box office, it’s no wonder Paramount picked up a family adventure of its own. The studio jumped on the opportunity to scoop up George Kay and Jim Field Smith’s family-oriented adventure-comedy idea. Plot details are being kept on the hush hush, but, according to THR, expect “a fantasy-tinged four-quadrant comedy in the vein of Night at the Museum.”

Field Smith is responsible for directing the upcoming DreamWorks romantic comedy She’s Out of My League and Kay nabbed the number one spot on The Brit List, the UK’s version of the US Black List, with Good Luck Anthony Belcher. Field Smith will direct this new project and Kay will write the screenplay.

A four-quadrant film like this one or Museum aims to appease the four main demographics: male and female, young and old. Yes, these films keep the cash flowing, but they often get caught in their attempt to fit in something for anyone and everyone. Hopefully Field Smith and Kay can learn from the Night at the Museum movies and find a way to include something for everyone while keeping the story tight.
