They’ve taken on Tom Cruise, had scatological puppet sex, and created a new sport, but Trey Parker and Matt Stone are still going strong. So strong, in fact, that they’ve just signed on with Paramount Pictures to produce and direct two new live action films. Parker will direct with Stone producing, and both will be doing script work with the existing writers on the two movies.
The first of the two movies, My All-American is a high school comedy which will have Parker and Stone working with younger actors. How young? Let’s just say the movie is produced in part by Nickelodeon Films. According to Variety, My All-Americans will mark the first time Parker and Stone have worked with real actors since before “South Park” started.
The second of the two movies sounds more like a typical Parker/Stone project. Giant Monsters Attack Japan will combine live action acting with rubber suit Godzilla-style effects.
Don’t expect either film to be absolutely huge however, because Parker and Stone don’t. Stone commented, "Neither of these movies feel like vehicles for big stars, but this will be our opportunity to find out if there are any actors left who want to work with us,". Considering the treatment these two have given many celebrities through “South Park” it wouldn’t be surprising to find there aren’t, but most of the celebrities (Tom Cruise excepted) seem to be good natured about ribbing from Parker and Stone. Still, I wouldn’t expect to see either movie headlining Barbra Streisand.
