I'd say chalk this one up to wishful thinking, but judging from his words, it certainly seems as though there may have been something to the Paul Rudd in the Muppets movie. The much buzzed about Jason Segel film sports one of the most impressive cast list of 2011 with Jack Black, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Crystal, Amy Adams, Alan Arkin, JCVD, and of course, the former Freaks And Geeks star himself in the lead. But Paul Rudd will not be in it...probably.

Speaking to MTV, Rudd at first called the speculation “all rumors”, but then went on to say “I wanted to be in it, and I talked to Jason, but I think there was some things that happened and I don't know if I'm gonna get to do it.” So, to sum up: it wasn't really all rumors. He actively tried to get involved, something happened, and now he probably won't be involved. Let me be the first to say that sucks. I'm all for everyone I love being in the Muppets Movie, but if they're Muppet superfans, the whole thing takes on a new level of urgency.

Don't worry though. Rudd says if they ever get around to making Muppets 2: The Muppets Are Still Taking Manhattan, he'll work a little harder to get on board.
