So Paul Verhoeven, after making the Dutch-language Black Book in 2006, is returning to the States to make The Surrogate for 20th Century Fox. And no, it's not this movie with Bruce Willis and robots. Nor is it this Screen Gems movie, apparently, even though the plots about crazy surrogate mothers sound exactly the same.

So yeah, I'm not really sure what Verhoeven is up to with this one,except that he's telling a story about a couple who hire a surrogate mother only to find out that she's insane. THR notes that the story is based on a 2004 book by Kathryn Mackel, so maybe it's Screen Gems who ripped off Mackel's book when they came up with their own surrogate story?

It's good to have Verhoeven back, and after the positive critical response of Black Book he might be ready to surprise us all again, Basic Instinct style.
