There's a chill in the air, the sun rides lower in the sky, and Harry Knowles once again missed seeing his shadow (it was obscured by his belly) thus indicating two more weeks of fall box office hangover. All of that can only mean its awards season. You know, that time of year when cranky old white men hand out meaningless statues to movie stars for standing in front of a camera and playing let's pretend.

Well at least it's mostly run by cranky old men. The People's Choice awards are only partially run by cranky old white men. Cranky old white men pick some things worth nominating, and then let the people vote on which one of their choices sucks less. If Channing Tatum ever gets the cranky old white guys to nominate him… look out.

So, this year's batch of People's Choice nominees are out. The categories are as always, pretty vague. They're not about anything anyone's done over the past year so much as they're a random rewarding for a celebrity's level of popularity. In other words, these statues are even more meaningless than most.
