Percy Jackson Finds Its Female Lead![]()
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief already sounds a heck of a lot like a Harry Potter knockoff, form the story about a young man who suddenly discovers he has supernatural powers to the fact that they've got Chris Columbus directing the first film. And now they've cast a female lead, Alexandra Daddario, who looks just right for that Hermione-esque role of the brainy brunette.
Percy Jackson is about a boy who discovers he's the son of Poseidon, so Daddario will be playing Annabeth, the daughter of Athena and a fellow resident at Camp Half-Blood, where Percy goes to learn all about being related to the gods. Percy will be played by Logan Lerman, while Tropic Thunder actor Brandon T. Jackson has also been cast in another role. The movie will be the first of what's intended as a five-movie franchise; the fifth book of the series by Rick Riordan, The Last Olympian, comes out in May. Daddario, who has been in movies like The Hottest State and the recent Jonas Brothers concert movie, may have just signed on for a role that will take over her life, and bring her plenty of Emma Watson-scaled fame in the process. I hope she's got her wizard's wand-- oh, wait, I mean mythical god powers-- ready for the challenge. |
