I know what you are thinking. You haven’t even seen Dan in Real Life yet and you are already clamoring to know what writer/director Peter Hedges is up to. You remember him from writing About a Boy and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. You think that both those movies were pretty good and Leo Di Caprio’s performance of a retard was a little too good. So, now that we all know what you are thinking, let’s go ahead and answer you, shall we?

Hedges is going to write and direct the movie Everything Changes based on a book by Jonathan Tropper, according to the Hollywood Reporter. This is one of those stories where a guy is going to marry some great gal and then realizes he’s in love with someone inappropriate. In this case it’s his best friend’s widow. Adding to his problems is the arrival of his estranged father who has an eye for the ladies.

Actor Tobey Maguire, who you may have heard of, bought the book for his production company a few years back. Maguire is also being considered for the lead. Since he’s the one doing the considering, I guess he would be a lock. Since this isn’t a pre-strike project, it’s not clear if we will see the movie before we start hitting double digits in the current millenium. Hedges, who also directed Pieces of April, seems like the perfect choice for this material so buy me a ticket!
