Shia LaBeouf has been confirmed for the Transformers movie so it’s time to move to the next rumored name on the list. This time it’s Ethan Phillips (courtesy of Trek Zone), more popularly known from “Star Trek: Voyager” as Neelix or, as I like to call the character, the one whose girlfriend mercifully got away. Yes that’s a lame “Star Trek: Voyager” sucks joke. No, I’m not going to explain it to you.

The general response to Phillips’s rumored casting has been met with about the same mediocrity that LaBeouf’s initial rumored casting and confirmation received. Nobody really cares who the humans in the movie are going to be. They are simply there to help us connect to the world that has big freakin’ robots in it. Start leaking Transformer test footage and fans are all ga-ga, but human names don’t really interest anyone.

For my money, Phillips is a great comedic actor. Is comedic the right tone for this movie though? What’s going to separate Phillips being tormented by giant robots from Hank Azaria being chased by the digital Godzilla? Yup, show us the robots or at least give us some voice casting names and then we’ll pretend to be excited about the human cast of the movie.
