Despite Kevin Costner’s best Oscar-worthy efforts, he has not managed to revive the Western. Pirate movies are all the rage, but Westerns remain those cute little curiosities that used to star John Wayne. Hey, wasn’t that also where Clint Eastwood started out? Funny old world.

Apparently, no one has told Brad Pitt that he’s supposed to be playing a pirate. According to Variety, he’s starring in the 756th movie about the life of Jesse James. Yes, he’ll be playing Jesse. The film is an adaptation of the Robert Hansen novel “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford”. The name will hopefully be massively shortened before being used to designate the movie. If it isn’t, I’ll get to make a lot of really great jokes about its length. The story is told from the perspective of a James gang member, Robert Ford, which probably explains why he’s sharing title space with Jesse. Personally, I’ve always been more of a fan of Jesse’s brother Frank James, who seems to be ignored or simply lumped in with Jesse as “The James Boys”. Jesse was an idiot, Frank had all the brains.

Andrew Dominik, a dirty Aussie, will be the guy directing the gunslinging pic for some subsidiary of Warner Brothers. Doesn’t matter which one, the money all goes into the Brothers pocket.
