I always like thinking of Pixar as some geekier version of Disneyland, the Happiest Place on Earth for people who are interested in computer models and stretch-and-bounce animation. And while the Pixar magic is going stronger than ever these days, it's going to get spread out a little bit. Yes, Canada is going to have a piece of one of the best things about America.

According to THR, Disney and Pixar are setting up a new animation studio in Vancouver, which will be responsible for producing shorts not only for Pixar, but Disney as a whole. Basically Disney has a lot of animation needs for its animation empire, and the beloved geeks at Pixar can't handle it.

Vancouver, of course, offers a ton of tax incentives for film productions to set up roots there, and as a result already features a pretty hefty animation community. It makes perfect sense for Pixar to head there, even though someone will inevitably accuse them of being anti-American and boycott Up as a result. So long as they don't send John Lasseter, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton or Brad Bird up north, I'm fine with this change.
