The Place Beyond The Pines Picked Up By Focus Features, First Clip Released Online
The last time that writer/director Derek Cianfrance and Ryan Gosling got together the result was intense to say the least. Blue Valentine was not only a critical darling when it was released in 2010, but also an incredibly powerful emotional experience that kept affecting viewers long after the lights had come back on in the theater. Even before Blue Valentine was in limited release, however, it had been announced that the star and the director would be reuniting on the guns and motorcycles film The Place Beyond The Pines and today we have news on when you'll be able to see the new movie for yourself.
Following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, Focus Features has picked up the rights to distribute The Place Beyond The Pines. While the press release about the acquisition says that the film won't come out until 2013, there is no specific release date listed. The story follows a professional motorcycle stunt rider named Luke who makes the decision to commit a crime so that he can support his family. Unfortunately a policeman named Avery (Bradley Cooper) is hot on his tail and a clash between the two not only changes the lives of both men, but their families as well. The brilliant supporting cast includes Eva Mendes, Rose Byrne, Mahershala Ali, Emory Cohen, Dane DeHaan, Bruce Greenwood, Ray Liotta and Ben Mendelsohn.
With the announcement also comes our first look at the movie. While we still haven't seen a trailer, HitFix has gotten their hands on the first official clip, which features a confrontation between Cooper and Greenwood in a hospital. Check it out below.
Said Cianfrance about Focus picking up the movie for distribution, "The Focus teamís ability to work in partnership with writers and directors is known and respected by the film community. Their passion for this very personal project is why I know they are the right home for our new movie." For more info about The Place Beyond The Pines head over to our Blend Film Database.
