We're still trying to learn exactly who the Guardians of the Galaxy are, but now an unofficial plot synopsis has found its way online to at least help guide us through what the movie is going to be about. Here's what we have so far...

About a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.

The description was posted over on IOTG, and while they don't give names to any of the characters its presumed that Star-Lord (the character kneeling at the center of the concept art posted above) who is the pilot sent into space. It was recently reported that Black List writer Chris McCoy has been hired to write the screenplay. In addition to Star-Lord, the other characters that will be appearing in the movie are "Rocket Raccoon (a genetically altered animal with a taste for guns and explosions), Groot (basically a living tree), Drax The Destroyer (a resurrected man brought back as a green warrior bent on killing Thanos), and Gamora (an alien and only survivor of her species who was actually once saved by Thanos and trained as his assassin)."

Guardians of the Galaxy will be in theaters on August 1, 2014, completing the series of solo films that will be featured in Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Iron Man 3 will be in theaters on May 3, 2013; Thor: The Dark World will premiere on November 8, 2013, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier will arrive on April 4, 2014. It was announced today that The Avengers 2 will debut on May 1, 2015.
