Pop-Up Video Revives Talk Of Robert Pattinson As Star Of American Idiot Movie![]()
As MTV reports, the big-screen adaptation of American Idiot is in pre-production with Tom Hanks’ Playtone collaborating with Green Day on the project. No casting has been done for the film, which is based on a play, which was adapted from Green Day’s album American Idiot. There really isn’t an update beyond that, unfortunately, however thanks to Pop-Up Video, buzz has been rekindled on the idea of Robert Pattinson taking the lead role in the film.
VH1 recently revived their music video series Pop-Up Video, a show that plays music videos, while offering bubbles of trivia about the artist, the song, and production on the video itself. The music channel now airs back-to-back episodes on weekday afternoons, and earlier this week, Green Day’s “21 Guns” was featured. Among the facts mentioned was that the band’s lead singer Billy Joe Armstrong said his preference to play the lead in the movie was Robert Pattinson of Twilight. The root of this comment stems back to an interview with Spinner.com back in 2009. Whether or not Pattinson remains Armstrong’s top choice isn’t known. Pattinson’s only gotten bigger since 2009, which could make him less available. He'd certainly be qualified for the role. Not only does Pattinson act, but he also sings, and plays the guitar and piano, which could come in handy for a part like this. But it's possible they’d want to go with someone a little less well known or someone from the original cast. All we can do is continue to speculate at this point and hope that this renewed topic inspires an update from Armstrong or Pattinson. In the meantime, here’s the Pop-Up Video for “21 Guns.” I especially like all of the talk of “squibs,” which have nothing to do with Harry Potter (unlike Robert Pattinson).
