Rob Cohen has offered another update on the production of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor on his blog, or should we say “post-production” on the movie. Filming wrapped almost two months ago and since Cohen disappeared into the editing room updates have been sparse. Apparently he’s been hard at work creating a tight edit on the film, with what sounds like positive results.

The current edit of the movie sits at just over two hours, but Cohen says they are still refining the picture for a scheduled February 28th screening for the executives at Universal. Even though that screening is over a week away, it sounds like quite a few of the heavies have already seen cuts of the movie, with Cohen rattling off almost a dozen names who have seen some portion of the movie, from producers to marketing heads. Even Jet Li has gotten a peek.

Cohen’s mention of the project’s visual effects reveals a few plot points about the movie. We already knew about the terracotta army facing off with an army of the undead from previous blog entries, which is being worked on by Digital Domain. This entry is the first time I remember hearing about the appearance of a Yeti, however. Apparently Rhythm & Hues is currently working on that portion of the Himalayan sequences. Wow, it really sounds like this Mummy picture is spanning a lot more of the globe than the last two.

Since the marketing people have already seen a cut, expect a teaser trailer soon, like in the next month or so. Cohen is hoping to have the teaser’s online debut at his blog, although Universal hasn’t committed to that. Still, it doesn’t hurt to check it occasionally, just to be sure.
