The Powerpuff Girls Meet Pacific Rim In Mecha Monster Mashup
The promise of Guillermo del Toro's return to directing is as big and thrilling as the titans on display in the promotional materials for Pacific Rim. Centered on the battle between massive monsters that have emerged from the ocean's depths and the gargantuan robots humans have built to defend civilization, this sci-fi epic is perfectly suited for summer movie going. But while Pacific Rim is an original screenplay, the basic premise isn't exactly new, a point made by a cheeky new trailer mash-up.
The Mary Sue unearthed the clever combo below that uses the audio from Pacific Rim's new trailer (which is breathtaking on the big screen, by the way) with footage from the Powerpuff Girls cartoon show, specifically the episode called "Uh Oh Dynamo." It's a pairing so perfect it seems destined:
All kidding aside, del Toro's remarkable imagination has thrived in live-action as well as animation, where he's exec produced movies like Kung Fu Panda 2 and Rise of the Guardians. But how exciting would it be for del Toro to collaborate with Powerpuff Girls' creator Craig McCracken, or better yet the show's producer and creator of Samurai Jack Genndy Tartakovsky?
Last year, Tartakovsky managed the rare feat of making an Adam Sandler movie downright charming with the surprise hit Hotel Transylvania. Aside from being guaranteed to be stupendous, the combined creative forces of del Toro and Tartakovsky would be sure to make the fanboys and fangirls of the world break out in a shared, earth-rattling squeal of nerdgasm. Right?
Pacific Rim opens July 12th.
