Could the latest trend in Hollywood be rock star biopics? Well, kind of. We’ve got The Runways on the way and now there’s Killing Bono, a film based on the book Killing Bono: I Was Bono’s Doppelganger. The thing is, it depicts the band from an unusual perspective.

I’ve never read the book, but after reading a handful of reviews, the general consensus seems to be that it’s less about U2 and more about author Neil McCormick’s jealousy of Bono’s success. According to Variety, the film will be “chronicling the early days of U2 from a rival band’s perspective.”

Chronicles of Narnia's Ben Barnes is set to star and, based on that mini-synopsis, I’d guess he’s not playing Bono, rather McCormick. It’s also been announced that Breaking Bad’s Krysten Ritter will be co-starring as well as Charlie Cox and Robbie Sheehan. The indie feature will be directed by Nick Hamm with principal production kicking off in the beginning of January in Belfast and London.

Barnes is nice to look at and Ritter deserves to avoid the Judy-Greer-black-hole-of-best-friend-roles, so I’m looking forward to seeing what the two can do together. As for the plot, it’s certainly an interesting take on the rocker, but will likely upset the massive amounts of U2 fans.
