Paramount is apparently still forging ahead with making Iron Man 2 in time for a 2010 release date, but at least one studio seems to have the sense to give a movie enough time to properly develop its special effects. Disney has delayed the release of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time until 2010, saying they want to allow plenty of time for post-production work. Variety also notes that the possibility of an actors’ strike means Disney probably wants to build in as much extra time as possible.
The film is, of course, coming out the same summer as Iron Man 2, but since its already started filming, it has a major head start. The release date change also moves it away from Transformers 2, which would have come out a week after Prince of Persia debuted, and puts it nearer Shrek Goes Fourth, a family movie likely to be much less competition.
This might be disappointing news for Prince of Persia fans who were looking forward to seeing it on June 19, 2009. But take heart! The Sandra Bullock-Ryan Reynolds romantic comedy The Proposal has been moved to fill the spot, and I know how many Prince of Persia fans love their romantic comedies. Also, that day will be my 25th birthday, so if you’re stuck without a movie to see, you can spend your day sending me birthday cards. See! Everyone wins!
