There's not an Avatar knockoff movie, not yet, but Asylum Entertainment will not let a new James Cameron movie get by without at least an attempt to cash in on it. Since the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs are public domain, and Disney will have a real John Carter of Mars coming out soon, Asylum went ahead and made their own low-budget version, Princess of Mars, with Antonio Sabato Jr. and, oh yes, Traci Lords. And because James Cameron has cited Burroughs as an influence, the trailer crows that the movie is "the inspiration for James Cameron's Avatar."
No, seriously. Check out the trailer below, and below that, a few stills from this wonderful debacle. You can pre-order the movie right from the official website. If Avatar turns out to be a disappointment, we'll at least have this to look forward to.
