Producer Don Murphy Hints At The Next Transformers Trilogy, Without Michael Bay image
Ever since Shia Labeouf very definitively said that he and Michael Bay won't be back for another Transformers movie now that the trilogy has wrapped up, it's been fair to speculate that Paramount, Hasbro and everyone else with a financial stake in the franchise would try to come up with another way to keep the money train going. One of those people with a big interest in more Transformers is producer Don Murphy, and on the forums for his own website (via TFW 2005, he hinted at what I think we were all probably expecting: another trilogy.

Here's the post in its entirety, and actually pretty frank given the way people usually tend to talk their way around franchises this huge:
"What happens next? Certainly not a reboot. We haven't lost the Transformers. They didn't grow up or become expensive like Toby Maguire. I don't know what happens next. I'm pretty sure there will be a second trilogy. I am pretty sure it will kick ass. And I am pretty sure some of you will hate it because it wasn't all bots."
Aside from the fact that Murphy seems weirdly hostile to the Transformers fans who have made his movies a success, this all makes sense. LaBeouf I think we could all pretty much take or leave, so long as Optimus Prime sticks around, but it's hard to imagine the Transformers franchise without the mad talents of Michael Bay guiding the whole thing. If there was a promise they'd move on from here to make movies that were more coherent or less shallow, I might be interested in seeing a new take on the toys. But Bay's skill with action and blatant disregard for character development were pretty much the only pleasures of the original three films. Without his participation, wouldn't you rather just revisit the old cartoons and call it a day?
