With Christopher Nolan about close out his Batman trilogy and all set to godfather Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, a lot of people have wondered if DC/Warner Bros. would take the same plunge as Marvel and put all of their heroes in the same universe. Though it's unknown how people will truly react to the idea until later this summer when both Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger make their way onto the big screen (not to mention The Avengers in 2012), it appears that DC won't be taking the risk.

STYD recently spoke with producer Charles Roven about the future of DC films and confirmed that the heroes will be staying in their own respective films until further notice. Said Roven, "That may be in somebody's mind but right now the Batman lives in his world and the Superman lives in his world. Those stories are those stories and we haven't thought beyond each individual picture." In other words, don't expect a Justice League movie to be competing with The Avengers in the near future.

In addition to the crossovers, Roven was also asked about the persistent rumors of a CGI Superman, which the producer neither confirmed nor denied. The producer instead took it as an opportunity to speak on rumors about the film in general, saying "You know, one of the things that you probably know about me and us working on this movie is that the rumors are the rumors and when we have something to say, we'll say it. Until we do, there's nothing to say."

To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure how to feel about a lack of crossover. Say what you will about the mistakes Marvel has made since Iron Man came out in 2008, but it's a very ambitious idea. In the comics, these characters' real home, they interact all the time and it would be interesting to see that play out on the big screen. Until then, we'll just have to settle for direct-to-video animated features.
