Protection Loses Paul Walker, Gains Clive Owen![]()
Back in May 2009, Brandon Noonan’s action thriller Protection was to be directed by Simon West and star Paul Walker and had plans to start shooting in August. Well, it’s January 2010, so something didn’t go according to plan. Now it seems as though Noonan’s script is getting another go-around because Production Weekly just announced via Twitter, that West and Walker have been replaced by Patrick Alessandrin and Clive Owen.
Regardless of whether or not Protection will still be about an ex-Special Forces soldier battling Mexican gang members while trying to rescue a judge’s daughter, the director and star swap makes it a completely different film. Foster’s Con Air and Tomb Raider have a hefty dose of action, but it’s nothing like what’s expected to be seen in Alessandrin’s upcoming parkour movie Banlieue 13: Ultimatum. Will he have Owen scaling walls? Would anyone even put Owen and Walker in the same category? Owen would never fit in a Fast & Furious movie, nor would Walker in a spy movie like The International or Duplicity. In any case, Protection is still just about a former soldier with a grudge putting bullets in bad guys. Is it really necessary? |
