Quaid Confirms Plans For G.I. Joe Trilogy

Quaid Confirms Plans For G.I. Joe Trilogy Not that you really thought it was possible, but it's looking like we're won't see an end to movies adapted from random bits of 80s nostalgia. Transformers guaranteed that us children of the 80s will be seeing our childhoods revived over and over again. G.I. Joe is the next in line, and even though the movie hasn't even been made yet, it's looking like we've got another toy-inspired franchise on our hands.

Frosty at Collider.com got the scoop from none other than Dennis Quaid, who will play General Hawk in the movie. Asking Quaid about the training he's done to fit with the part and how long the shooting would be, Frosty heard this small but important tidbit: “I only have two weeks of work over five weeks for this one. But it’s hopefully going to be a franchise – three movies. Quaid then clarified that he had signed on as a three-picture deal.

Well, color me not at all shocked. The G.I. Joe world is incredibly large and dense, and probably lends itself far better to a three-picture series than a bunch of pirates or an ogre who doesn't like anyone. 2007 was the year of the threequel, after all, and had the best box office on record. Is it actually smart to do this, running into the ground any concept that seems to work? Probably not. The bubble has to burst eventually, and we'll all get sick of seeing the same characters doing the same nonsense onscreen. But for now, buck up and get used to it. The G.I. Joe series will be followed by the Jem and the Holograms series, and somehow Inspector Gadget will make a comeback too. Go looking for your original ideas somewhere else.
