Woody Allen’s movies are often a vague and mostly unknown proposition until they show up in theaters fully formed. For a change though, he’s cluing us in on exactly what he’s up to well in advance. Today he announced the cast of his next film, Midnight in Paris and told us what it’s all about.

The movie is a romantic comedy following a family traveling to the city for business. Strange since, normally entire families don’t go on business trips. But here’s how the press release explains what’s going on: “The party includes a young engaged couple that has their lives transformed throughout the journey. The film celebrates a young man’s great love for Paris, and simultaneously explores the illusion people have that a life different from their own is better. “

Alright maybe I spoke too soon when I said he’d tell us what it’s about. I’ve read that three times and I still have no idea what it means. But we do know who’s in it. Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody, Carla Bruni, Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, Michael Sheen and Owen Wilson are set to star. Nina Arianda, Kurt Fuller, Tom Hiddleston, Mimi Kennedy, Alison Pill and Corey Stoll co-star.

The movie’s currently in pre-production. Allen plans to shoot it this summer in Paris, which is a good thing. He’s been better since he abandoned New York in favor of shooting overseas. As long as he’s shooting in Paris, odds are this will be more Vicky Christina Barcelona than Curse of the Jade Scorpion.
