The number of “who is going to be involved in Spider-Man 4” stories that were flying around when the third instalment was released have slowed to a trickle. Thank god. If you remember, most of the stories about Sam Raimi, Tobey McGuire, and Kirsten Dunst could be summed up by saying thus: they all might do it, or they all might not do it. Parse their words however you want, in a nutshell they all just said “maybe.”

According to Empire Online, Raimi has decided that he hasn’t said “maybe” in a few weeks and he needs to say it again. So while at Comic-Con he said that he might just be a producer of the next movie. Of course, that means he might not just do that. He then said that the writer (who hasn’t been selected) might write a script where it would be “right” for him to direct, but who knows?

So, after that interview we now know that Raimi may direct Spider-Man 4, or that he may not. That’s a much different situation than before the interview when we….well….I guess it isn’t that different. Here’s a suggestion. If you see Sam Raimi walking down the street, ask him if we will be directing the next Spider-Man movie. If he says absolutely yes or definitely no, tell the world about it. If he gives another of these non-answers, keep it to yourself.
