Raimi Unleashes The Animals Of Monster Zoo![]()
It seems like a guarantee these days that if you write a graphic novel that isn’t about, say, child molesters and baby seal clubbers, it will be turned into a movie. Practically every other new project announcement has the word “graphic novel” in the title, and the subjects are everything from a guy on the run from the law in France to a magical groundskeeper (Groundskeeper Willie from The Simpsons must be thrilled).
So yes, another day, another graphic novel adaptation. This time it’s called Monster Zoo, and it’s about a young boy who discovers that his local zoo contains some very unusual creatures—we’re gonna go out on a limb here and say it’s monsters. The one interesting part of this story is that Sam Raimi is involved, which marks yet another non-Spider-Man related project for the director. He’s busy getting ready to direct Drag Me To Hell, of course, and he’s only signed on to this one as a producer. It’d be nice to see Raimi getting busy with directing projects, Guillermo del Toro style, but his hand as a producer will be welcome too. Of course, if someone would think to start making movies based on something other than graphic novels—you know, like original content?—that would be great too, but I guess we shouldn’t be asking for too much. |
