Tucker Max gleefully calls himself "the worst person in the world," or at least admits that he used to be. And yet, this is the kind of guy who gets a movie made about his life for some reason, and the movie based on his memoir I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell is in production now. And now three actors have joined to play characters based on Max and his friends, guaranteed to be hated by women and loved by men the world over.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Matt Czuchry, of Friday Night Lights and Gilmore Girls, will play "Tucker Max," who presumably will be a fictionalized version of the real-life asshole. Jesse Bradford of Flags of Our Fathers and the upcoming My Sassy Girl, and Geoff Stults of October Road will play Max's buddies. The story takes place during a wild wedding weekend, which seems to mean you can watch Wedding Crashers for a vague idea of what this movie will be like.
I'm normally down with fratty, dudes-will-be-dudes kinds of movies, but a movie based on a guy's tale of how badly he treated women irks me to no end. I'm sure there will be some message in the end about how they all learn the error of their ways and to treat women well, but that's not really good enough. When someone is an asshole in real life, and becomes rich and famous for it, not despite it, that's just obnoxious. The Wedding Crashers guys may have been jerks too, but jeez, at least they were fictional.

Where do you think fictional characters come from? Seriously, do they just emerge from imagination because people are inherently good, always and without exception? That's rather naive.
Tucker Max is a fraud. He's been called out in both the press and in interviews for fabricating his stories. He's a James Frey in search of a joke, as his book and screenplay (yes, I read it) are woefully lacking in humor and originality.
I wouldn't glorify TM by calling him an asshole. Liar, yes. Unfunny, definitely. But the asshole is just something he labels himself, in a lame, dated attempt at self-promotion.
Wait, how did the guys in wedding crashers treat girls badly again? They lied to attend the weddings but then fucked girls that wanted to sleep with them because they were charismatic attention grabbers once in the wedding...how is that mistreating girls again?
