Red-Band Ted Featurette Is NSFW Even Behind The Scenes
With three cartoon series currently running, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane certainly has loads of fans who have been eagerly awaiting the release of his directorial feature debut Ted. But it was upon the release of the R-rated comedy's red-band trailer that this twisted bromance about a manchild and his bloated teddy bear won over many of us who has long grown bored of the pop culture references and shock tactics that MacFarlane regularly passes off as comedy in Family Guy and its carbon copies American Dad! and The Cleveland Show.
Seriously, MacFarlane, you had me at, "Fuck you, Thunder!"
We've since seen a green-band trailer that toned down the crassness and showed us how the foul-mouthed plaything came to life, and now Universal is unveiling a revealing first look that is absolutely NSFW—even with headphones on. Check it out below, but don't say we didn't warn you.
Though MacFarlane seems surprised that Ted is being branded as a hard-R comedy, even in the vid above its easy to see why it earns the rating Of course as we've seen in critically acclaimed comedies like Role Models, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, and Bridesmaids, an R-rating doesn't mean a pic is devoid of heart or a childlike wonder. It's this tricky mix of warmth and wildness—that often pays off big—is what MacFarlane is aiming to deliver in Ted. And if he succeeds on delivering the blend of whimsy and crudeness the promos have promised, Macfarlane could well have the comedy hit of the summer on his hands.
Ted opens June 29th.
