The only thing surprising about the fact that there will be a gothic re-imagining of "Little Red Riding Hood" is that Tim Burton isn't directing it. Well, not yet at least. Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way production company has picked Orphan writer David Leslie Johnson to write the screenplay, based on the classic Brothers Grimm tale.

Variety tells us, just in case you were worried, that the movie isn't being positioned as an acting vehicle for DiCaprio. They also suggest that the story might go even darker places than what we're used to-- an older version of the tale even lets Red die in the end! Sure sounds Gothic to me. Now how do they get Burton on board?
