Director Joe Carnahan is working on a remake of the 1965 Laurence Olivier mystery thriller Bunny Lake is Missing, and Variety says Reese Witherspoon may end up starring in it.
The movie is about a woman who reports her daughter missing, but investigators can find no evidence that the girl ever existed. It’s kind of like Flightplan, but on the ground and without that completely implausible ending.
Carnahan has Smokin’ Aces coming out in a few months, and he’s also supposed to direct George Clooney’s movie White Jazz. He’s supposed to squeeze this in before that, but negotiations are still under way with Spyglass Entertainment to fund it, Columbia to distribute it, and Witherspoon to star in it. Reese is currently filming a thriller called Rendition, due out in theaters in 2007.
