Repo! Director Not Hiding His Face In Shame![]()
With Repo! The Genetic Opera being sorely missed on the list of best picture nominations for 2008 Razzies, it is no wonder director Darren Bousman is just trying to stay busy. Variety reports that Bousman is set to direct upcoming thriller, called either Akula or The Akula Heist. The film is about diamond heist that takes place on a submarine.
After watching the special features for Repo! The Genetic Opera I’m quite sure that Bousman has no one but himself to blame for that hot mess of a movie. Although he did not write the flick, he did take most of his crew from the Saw films with him for Repo!. As he hypes the upcoming Akula he conveniently distances himself from his “recent films.” He says ”The tone is dark, but very different from the films I’ve directed recently.” So, it is still disgustingly violent but not quite as disgustingly violent as Repo! or Saw IV? It is a shame that a director like Bousman is taking the reins of a film from such an awesome genre. We only get so many heist films a year, and to have this joke of a director at the helm of Akula means that there is one less to be excited about. Yes, I could try and be positive, but I know the type of stamp Bousman likes to leave on his movies: “dark,” twisted, and repulsive. |
