Resident Evil: Afterlife Starts Production![]()
To no one’s surprise the fourth installment in the Resident Evil franchise, to be titled Resident Evil: Afterlife, is go. In a press release sent out this evening Sony’s Screen Gems announced that the film has officially begun production in Toronto and what’s more, like every out of gas franchise looking for a gimmick, it will be released in 3-D.
They’re bringing back all the key characters. Milla Jovovich is back as Alice along with Resident Evil 3 co-stars Ali Larter as Claire Redfield and Spencer Locke as K-Mart. New cast additions include Wentworth Miller, who has signed on as Chris Redfield – Claire’s brother and a popular character from the game series. Shawn Roberts will take over the role of Alice’s nemesis Wesker. Boris Kodjoe and Kim Coates have also been cast. They’ve also brought back Paul W.S. Anderson who will write, direct and produce. He hasn’t helmed a Resident Evil movie since the first one back in 2002 and in this blogger’s humble opinion, it’s one of the only decent things he’s ever done. Maybe he’ll figure out whatever worked so well in the original and bring it back or maybe this will be yet another movie cashing in on the horror fan’s indiscriminate love of anything which contains zombies. So what’s it about? Anderson says, “Alice’s battle with The Umbrella Corporation isn’t finished. Last time we saw Alice, she let them know she was coming after them. It’s time to settle the score.” |
