Rest Easy, The A-Team Won't Get Starsky & Hutched
Most of us stopped carrying A-Team lunchboxes by the time we were eleven so maybe it doesn’t matter whether or not the movie version is all that faithful to the television show. Anyone who might have cared has probably outgrown it. Still, if there’s any semblance of A-Team fandom left in you, you’re probably a little afraid that they’re going to Starsky & Hutch this thing.
Traditionally, that’s the way Hollywood handles any classic TV show to movie translation: They make fun of it, turn it into a joke, and toss out whatever it was that made people like it in the first place. Good news: That’s probably not what they’re doing to The A-Team. MTV caught up with Jessica Biel, who will play a former love interest of one of the A-Teamers in the film, and asked her about the tone of the project. Here’s what she had to say, “I think it will be a little bit similar here and there, but we really have our own tone going on. It’s a little bit less campy, it’s less campy than the actual show and a little bit more serious action, and like fighting sequences and um, but still with lots of humor.” So they’re not going to Starsky & Hutch it. Actually what she describes sounds a lot like the tone of the original show which, at the time wasn’t as campy as she seems to think it is now. Maybe they’re getting this right.
