MOVIE NEWS
Return Of Saturn The unfair shunning of George Lucas is inevitable at the Oscars this year (Episode III should be SWEEPING most of the technical awards, but instead in most cases it hasn’t even been nominated), but the Saturn Awards are getting it right. The Saturns award the best in genre entertainment every year. Science Fiction, Horror, Fantasy, and all the other things except comedy that the Academy Awards and their ilk tend to ignore.
They’ve announced this year’s batch of nominees, and Star Wars: Episode III, rightfully, has a big presence. Ten nominations for the crowning achievement of George’s prequel journey. It doesn’t make up for the lack of attention elsewhere, but at least it’s a start. It’s also nice to see The Island in there. It’s an unfairly hated and unfairly unwatched movie. It may not have made money, but at least the Saturn people recognize it’s lack of suckiness. Not all the nominations make as much sense though. What the hell is The Jacket doing in there? Below is the best of their really lengthy nominations list. For all their nominations, go visit SaturnAwards.org… assuming they’ve figured out how to make their website work.
