Sacrificed your principles to watch that horrible, vapid show The O.C. tonight just so you could see the new Star Wars trailer, didn’t you? No? You’ve sold your soul to Hyperspace or AOL to watch it instead? Sick! Sad.

My first impression is a great big… wow. But then Lucas has always been a genius at cutting trailers. This one is his advertising masterstroke. Most heartening is that this thing is teasing us with actually showing Anakin slaughtering Jedi… not some stupid action figure robot as we’d all suspected. Of course, slaughter isn’t what made the original movies great. But the innocence and wonder that made those movies classics has no place here, in the darkest, most dire chapter of Star Wars. With Lucas claiming it’ll be PG-13, maybe he’s actually taking it where he needs to go. Of course ratings don’t mean very much. And all the limb hacking action in the world won’t necessarily make this a good movie. But maybe it’ll make it a different movie. As there always is whenever we see one of George’s fantastic trailers, there is hope.
