James Cameron has hired Giovanni Ribisi for Avatar. You remember Avatar, it’s the $190 million movie Cameron is making using his reportedly revolutionary 3-D technology. The future is here! Flying cars can’t be far off now.

Already in the cast of Avatar is Sam Worthington, Star Trek’s new Uhura Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and apparently Michelle Rodriguez. At least that’s what HR says. Not sure how I managed to miss her casting, I'm kind of obsessed with Avatar, but this is the first I’ve heard of her involvement. Also in the cast are six computer generated actors known as “synthespians”. WETA Digital is involved, so expect Gollum the next generation.

Last we heard, Worthington is the star which means Ribisi will be something else. Whatever he is, Ribisi is a good addition to just about anything. Unfortunately most of the time he ends up being added to mediocre movies like Sky Captain. Working for Cameron is a nice step up for him.

Avatar follows a paraplegic war veteran from Earth who is taken to another planet inhabited by a humanoid race at odds with Earth’s citizens. Look for it in theaters next year on May 22nd.
