Richard Griffiths To Play King George II In Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 image
Over the past nine years, Richard Griffiths has played a fairly important role in one of the biggest children's franchises: Harry Potter. Playing the wicked Uncle Vernon Dursley, it was because of his harsh treatment of Harry that the young wizard made the decision to spend the bulk of his time at school. But with the series about to end, Griffiths has searching for a new franchise where he can be a villainous British person. Welcome to Pirates of the Caribbean, Richard!

In an interview with Empire, star Geoffrey Rush, who plays Captain Barbossa in the films, has revealed that Griffiths will play King George II in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. While Rush didn't go into the character much, members of the British monarchy are rarely shown in a positive light (this is a movie about pirates after all). The cast of the film already includes the likes of Rush, Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, Stephen Graham and Gemma Ward.

Griffiths has had a long history as a character actor and even starred alongside Depp in the Tim Burton adaptation of Sleepy Hollow. The man is also typically good for a laugh, and apparently he shares a scene with Geoffrey Rush, so expect some chuckles to be had when he is on screen.
